A former small underground Au-Ag-Cu-Pb-Zn-W mine located on 26 claims in the NW ¼ sec. 36, T.19S., R.7E., 17 miles N of Sasabe, 6 miles West of Sasabe Road and 62 miles from Tucson. Produced 1933-1936 and 1940-1941. Owned at times, or in part, by the Iowana Mines, Inc.; Charles Bent; and James C. Shields.
Mineralization is a series of small, lensing, quartz-calcite fissure veins with spotty gold and silver values and sparse, partly oxidized base metal sulfides, cutting partly metamorphosed Cretaceous sedimentary beds invaded by numerous granite and diorite porphyry dikes. Some sparse wolframite in cross-cutting quartz dikes.
Workings include shallow shafts and tunnels. Probably prospected prior to 1900 and worked subsequently in 1933-1936 and 1940-1941. It produced some 100 tons of ore averaging about 1 oz. Au/T, 16 oz. Ag/T and minor lead and copper. Concentrates contained 4 to 7 oz. Au/T & 58 to 60 oz. Ag/T.
