Beryl was found in 1868 by G.B. Traverso in a large pegmatite block, along the left side of Rio Coloria, in association with crystals of black tourmaline (schorl), muscovite, albite, and quartz. It was the first find of beryl for Piedmont (Gastaldi, 1871).
