Snyder Hill prospect


A former small surface and underground Pb-Ag-Au-Baryte prospect located in West-central sec. 3, T.15S., R.12E. Produced 1922. Operated by R.W. Scharf.

Mineralization is small, local replacement pockets of argentiferous galena, silver halides, and barite in Permian limestone. Alteration is silicification. Only a little galena observed. Small veins approximately parallel, and subsidiary to, the main vein, are evident in pits N and NE of the main vein. Calcite veins and fine-grained quartz occur in the ore zone. The ore is 120 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. It strikes N10W and dips 50E.

Workings included 6 shafts, 1 adit (on the N end of the vein), a shallow pit, and several pits within 150 meters to the north and NE of the main vein (east side of Snyder Hill) which are small showings of vein material. In 1922, this site produced some 15 tons of picked ore averaging about 5% Pb, 301 oz. Ag/T and 0.1 oz. Au/T.
