Argus Mine
A former underground Cu-Fe-Au-Ag mine located in North-central (SW¼NW¼NE¼) sec. 6, T10N, R16W (Swansea 15 minute topo map), on land of unknown status. Owned by Mr. Jones (1916).
Mineralization is irregular lenses of supriferous hematite in replacement bodies in Paleozoic carbonate rocks along or above the brecciated and schistose contact with underlying Precambrian metamorphics. Mineralization includes secondary copper minerals.
Workings include tunnel operations. This mine was worked sporadically in the early 1900's and in 1916 produced some 250 tons of ore averaging about 3% Cu, 0.4 oz. Au/T and 0.2 oz. Ag/T. Later production was grouped with the New Planet Mine output.
