A former underground Au-Ag-Cu-Fe mine located in East-central sec. 13, T7N, R18W, 5 road miles WNW of Bouse, in the northern Plomosa Mountains, on BLM-administered land. Owned at times, or in part, by the Godbe Brothers; the Old Maid Mining Co. (1924- ); Hoffmeister; and, Corey. NOTE: Alternate coordinates provided: 33.9503N, 114.0817W.
Mineralization is spotty, fine grained gold in hematite and vuggy quartz with some oxidized copper ores, in narrow, lensing and irregular veins, complexly faulted, in metamorphosed Mesozoic sedimentary beds, intruded by granitic porphyry dikes. The vein strikes northward and dips 20º to 60ºW. It has been complexly faulted and has not been found below the 100 foot level. It is a few inches up to about 3 feet wide and averages 1 foot wide. Ore consists of coarse, grayish-white, vuggy quartz with abundant reddish to black hematite.
Workings include a 260 foot (79.25 meters) deep vertical shaft and nearly 1,000 feet of drifts on 5 levels. Developed and worked sporadically from the early 1900's through 1938, producing some 150 tons of ore averaging about 2.6 oz. Au/T, 0.6 oz. Ag/T and 0.1% Cu.
