Black Mountain group; Black Hills Barite claim
A small former surface and underground Baryte-Fluorspar-Cu mine located on 2 non-contiguous unpatented claims, in the center of sec. 34, T8N, R17W. Owned at times, or in part, by Brewer; the National Lead Co.; and Townsend.
Mineralization is barite with variable fluorite and copper staining, mixed with wall rock in fissure veins, folds, and in replacements in strongly farctured Cretaceous or Tertiary andesitic agglomerate and tuff.
Workings were and open cut and shaft operations. This mine was worked in the late 1940's and produced some 2,500 tons of 75% BaSO4 and 14% CaF2.
