The Drexel Mine is a former Cu occurrence/mine located near Delaware. The fissure was worked by the Amygdaloid Mining Company between 1862 and 1874 by two shafts. The mine produced a little over 1.5 million pounds of native copper from the fissure before mining was stopped in 1874. Very little is known of the mine after this time.
Drexel is known for its beautiful datolite nodules. Datolite nodules average around two inches in size, but nodules up to five inches across and showing a white color with red veining and speckling throughout can be found in the pile. In the 1940’s, dark purple datolite nodules with a black rind were recovered. This pile is slowly being removed for road construction projects in the area.
