Old Noel Mine


A former underground Cu-Au-Ag-Fe mine located in the NW¼ sec. 19, T5N, R11W (Gladden 15 minute topo map). Owned at times, or in part, by Nuevo Mundo Mountain Mines; and, the Jerome Wenden Copper Co.

Mineralization is irregular lenses of oxidized copper ores with silver and gold, in brecciated diorite, cherty limestone and heavy batches of iron oxides, along a fissure zone bordering a diorite dike in a complex Precambrian granite-schist alternating with altered, distorted Paleozoic or Mesozoic limestone. There is a series of NW-striking diorite dikes along the fissure zone.

Workings include tunnel operations. Mined mainly in 1916 through 1918, producing some 110 tons of ore averaging about 11% Cu, 0.15 oz. Au/T and 0.3 oz. Ag/T.
