A former underground Au-Cu mine group located on a group of about 12 claims in SW¼ sec. 11, T2S, R11W (also secs. 10 & 15 per MRDS) in the North-central Gila Bend Mountains, on BLM-administered land. One claim was staked in 1909 and the remainder about 20 years later. Owned by Mr. A.B. Moore.
Mineralization is spotty gold with minor copper in weathered zones in quartz lenses or silicified zones with strong iron oxides, in Precambrian schist intruded by granitic masses and andesitic to granitic dikes, or in granitic masses. The schist generally stands nearly vertical and strikes approximately N.60ºE., but considerable local irregularity of structure is evident. Andesitic dikes, 10 to 50, or more, feet wide strike S.80ºE. and SE. Several brecciated zones, up to a few feet wide and traceable for as much as 200 feet, strike parallel to the dikes. The gold-bearing material was richest within fifteen feet (5 meters) of the surface but, lower down, did not have more than a few dollars per ton.
Workings include the Bill Taft shaft that inclines about 20º West, and is 150 feet (45 meters) deep, plus about 25 feet of drifting. A little surface gold ore had been mined during 1909; several sacks of pitch gold ore was shipped in 1910.
