A former surface Au-Ag-Fe-Cu-Pb-Mn mine located in the SW¼ sec. 33, T5N, R14W & the NW¼ sec. 4, T6N, R14W, 5 miles N of Vicksburg. Location is approximate. Owned by the Glory Hole Bonanza Mines Co. NOTE: Alternate coordinates provided: 33.8122N, 113.7278W.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with irregular ore bodies in a wide fissure or shear zone and is comprised of numerous, irregular, contorted and discontinuous quartz veins, and large masses of quartz. Some veins carry high-grade gold pockets and a gangue of siderite, iron oxides, and some manganese oxides. Some local sulfides. Country rock is metamorphosed Mesozoic sediments.
A surface pocket of high-grade gold ore started a short-lived boom in 1909 but subsequent exploration failed to develop much additional ore. Total production would probably be no more than about 450 oz. of gold with some silver and copper. In general the free gold is rather sparingly distributed in the veins, and in several places the free gold was only discovered after dissolving the iron oxide and carbonate present, which formed an effective covering for the gold.
The opposite direction of dip of the schists on either side of the wash in the vicinity of the prospect suggests that the direction of the gulch may have been determined by faulting.
The developments on the strike itself are of the most meager nature, consisting only of a small surface cut in the mountain side.
