The Grafen adit is part of the Rotenstein mining area, within the Ringenwechsel mining district of Schwaz . There are two big dump areas nearby, one about 50 meters southwest of the Grafen adit, and the bigger one about 150 meter northeast. You will cross through the bigger dump three times when going up the forest road to the mountain top.

It is unclear if these dumps consist of rocks coming from the Grafen adit itself, as there are no less than 24 old adits in the Rotenstein area .

In these dumps there is ample of opportunity to find small spherical malachite aggregates, as well as calcite, dolomite, azurite, and small quartz crystals.

Most of the calcites, dolomites and quartz crystals are found as small bands within a rock, and in small pockets throughout (p. 8). The crystals are usually no larger than 1 cm.

The azurites and malachites are usually found as crusts on the rocks.
