Glory group; Rico Mine
A former underground Au-Ag-Cu mine located in North-central (center N½) sec. 25, T10N, R19W, S of Billy Mack Mountain, 7 miles by road NE of Parker, on BLM-administered land. Owned/operated at times, or in part, by the Billy Mack Mining Co., Illinois-Arizona Copper Co., Lion Hill Gold Mining Co. and the Osborne & Botzum. Closed 1943.
Mineralization is small pockets of hematite containing spotty copper silicate and carbonates in brecciated rock and replacements of metamorphosed Paleozoic limestone which was folded into an anticlinal structure and strongly fractured. The mineralization is associated with low-angle normal faults; ore bodies are found within and above the flinty, chloritic, micro-brecciated detachment surface. The ore deposits occur in shear zones controlled by fracturing and bedding. There were some high grade gold pockets in iron oxide. The host rock unit is limestone. Associated rock units are basalt and granite.
Workings include tunnel operations with a length of 2000 feet (609.6 meters), together with some winzes, raises and stopes. This mine was prospected and worked intermittently from the early 1900's but production was mainly from 1917-1920, 1928-1933, 1937-1938 and in 1943. Total production would be some 700 tons of ore averaging about 2.4 oz. Au/T, 0.2 oz. Ag/T and 0.4% Cu. The ore recently (?) milled contained also a trace of Ag and about 0.5% of Cu.
