Eagles Nest Mine
A former surface and underground Cu-Au-Ag mine located in West-central sec. 16, T.10N., R.18W. (Black Peak 15 minute topo map). Owned at times, and in part, by the Empire Arizona Consolidated Copper Co.; Empire Arizona Copper Co.; Empire Arizona Mining Co.; Strategic Metals Mines. Owned and operated by the Lucky Tiger Combination Gold Mining Co. and Cornejo (1950).
Mineralization is generally similar to the Carnation deposit in geology and mineralization but with less iron oxides and relatively more secondary copper. Spotty ore bodies closely associated with the thrust fault zone and sheared, faulted, fractured, and brecciated metamorphosed Paleozoic-Mesozoic sediments and thrust-faulted, overlying Precambrian metamorphics.
Workings include a shaft and surface cuts. This mine was prospected and worked along with the carnation from the early 1900's to the 1950's and produced some 4,000 tons of ore averaging about 3.5% Cu, 0.2 oz. Au/T and minor silver.
