A former surface and underground Cu-Ag-Au-Pb-Zn mine located in the SE¼ sec. 19, T5S, R18W (protracted), on federal land. Owned/operated at times, or in part, by Messrs. Miller & Minear; the Thumb Butte Copper Co., Crowder, Gifford & Ferguson, Sturgess, and the Castle Dome Exploration & Development Co.
Mineralization is spotty chalcocite, partly altered to copper carbonates, with minor lead and zinc ores, in irregular calcite-quartz veins cutting Mesozoic shale, limestone and arkose and some green chlorite schists, possibly from altered andesitic volcanics. North-South mineralized zone about 20 feet wide. The original outcrop was said to contain very high grade silver values.
Workings included shallow shafts and open cuts worked sporadically in the 1880's and from 1918 to 1930 and in 1956 and 1966. Some 135 tons of ore averaging about 7% Cu, 11 oz. Ag/T & 0.1 oz Au/T plus 0.2% Pb were produced.
