Manganese oxide replacement of Pennsylvanian shales and in breccia zones. Small deposits.
Structure: Aztec Fault A Breccia Zone Containing Large Clasts Of Limestone In Vicinity Of Stope
Tectonics: Sangre De Cristo Uplift
Deposit: The ore occurs As nodules forming irregular pockets largely in soft shale As a replacement along bedding planes. The stope is located in sandstone and shales of the upper clastic member of the sandia formation of the magdelena group, along a zone of breccia that contains numerous and often large-sized limestone boulders.
Development: Dates of discovery and production are unknown. Wells (1918, p. 58) said it was idle in 1918. Ownership is unknown.
Geology: The manganese occurs in sandstone and shales of the upper clastic member of the sandia formation of the magdelena group.
