Old mine Ferdinands Grube (Kopalnia Dzierżysław) prospering from 1812 and in which the exploitation of the gypsum deposit began (Other sources state the 18th century). The deposit was mined in underground shafts and sidewalks. In 1974, the mine was closed. The mining area is heavily overgrown with forest. There are numerous depressions, undergrowths and collapses on the whole area. There are also old buildings of the mine.
A huge curiosity in the mine's seams was finding a fragment of petrified wood, completely imbued with mineral gypsum. This specimen was kept for some time in Wroclaw, but most likely it was taken from there to Germany or Austria (Roemer 1870).
The film "Tajemnica Kopalni Gipsu "Dzierżysław" i Projekt "Krab" - nurkowanie w zalanych chodnikach" is available online. Large, beautiful and shiny gypsum crystals are visible on the walls of the underground shafts.
