Monceau's quarry is located in the valley of the Sambre. It quarries Upper Visean limestones.
The geology of the site is distinguished by the inversion of the order of the layers (reverse fold), the sawtooth contact with the underlying coal and the presence of the Visean breccia formerly exploited as marble. All these elements bear witness to the movements of the continents recorded in the Belgian underground 300 million years ago.
Because of the complex geology, currently used aggregates are of remarkable quality.
