The pipe was discovered in 1871 and rapidly mined out. The mine was closed in 1914, due to increasing mining costs at depth while the quantity of remaining ore was very small.

Total yield: 3 metric tons (15,000,000 carats) of diamonds from 25 million metric tons of kimberlite (Adriaensens, 1983).

Also known as "The Big Hole" (463 m diameter, 1,097 m deep).
