A former small deposit worked via shafts circa 1955.
The most easterly shaft is almost completely filled (sediment) but panning material from the collar affords some flakes of cinnabar. this links it to the relatively nearby Woolgoolga Mercury prospect. The shaft just west of the road is still open and timbered (unstable to enter) and the third shaft has largely collapsed. The spoil heaps around these two shafts are large, steep and heavily vegetated. It is possible to find specimen gold in quartz (easily visible, several mm size) and sometimes small gold grains in cavities in ignimbrite.(Neil Vaughan has such a specimen). The presence of ignimbrite and some cinnabar in this dump material leads us to speculate about a possible volcanic origin for the mercury minerals and the gold.
