Dolomite quarry included within the Triassic Keuper sequence (Subbetic olistostrome). The outcrop is a huge dolomite olistolite highly fractured which was quarried in the past XX century, to produce road aggregates for base and subbase formation.
Currently the quarry is abandoned and late alabastrine gypsum trenches were worked for gypsum production to construction.
Dolomites are dark grey, thinly bedded (2-4 cm) and fine grained texture (dolomicrite). Occasionally,calcite and gypsum veins fill joints running along dolomite matrix where mineralization occurs. Coelestine, sulphur and fluorite fill veins in calcite, forming attractive mineral association.
Sulphur was presented in the past in aesthetic association of interest to collectors, included as core and microcrystals on white alabastrine gypsum.
Currently dumping places and collapse of ancient trenches within the quarry make hard to find out aesthetic or representative specimens.
