Historic gold mine.
Located south of the Broken Hills Mine, on the eastern side of the Tairua River.
Hosted by rhyolitic breccia, with shattered and silicified zones of Au-Ag in lenses and stringers of finely crystallised quartz, and some kaolinite and electrum. The ore was of a low grade.
Neville Butler Lusk is first mentioned working the Coronation and Coronation Extended leases in 1903. The Coronation Gold Mining Company was formed shortly after, with Henry Hopper Adams as mine manager. A five stamp battery from the Hikutaia Syndicate was purchased and removed to the Tairua site by 1905. Despite reports of development work, and the discovery of payable ore, little crushing information was forthcoming. James McInteer is mine manager in this latter period. In 1909, the company is in liquidation with the Coronation and Coronation Extended leases (both 75.5 acres), with the battery, being sold at auction.
John Kneebone purchased the property and immediately requested protection from the warden. The lease was subsequently incorporated into the Tairua Monarch Consolidated Mine.
