Abandoned scheelite mine.
Access to the Bonnie Jean Mine is by continuing on the track past the Mount Judah mine site. The track enters the Buckler Burn, then a side creek in a semi circular fashion. The battery site is on the creek, while the mine is several hundred metres further up the hill. Mine workings, tailings, and huts remain.
The Bonnie Jean lode was opened by an Invercargill syndicate late 1909. A 5 stamp battery, and aerial cableway from the mine to the battery have been installed. October 1910, the syndicate takes over the Alaska Mine, with only one shareholder in the Alaska Mine remaining.
Only two months later the Bonnie Jean Mine is placed up for sale by the liquidator, advertised now with a 10 stamp battery.
Little happens in 1912, with the battery idle, apart for crushing 13 tonnes of ore for the Alaska Mine. In 1913, the Glenorchy Scheelite Mine acquires the property. The last mention of the mine is in 1915.
