Despite the name, it is located 5 kilometres west of Queenstown, along the Queenstown-Glenorchy Road. Gold fossicking site with use of hand tools only. This is one of seventeen sites on the South Island of New Zealand available to public fossick for gold. The location is within 5 kilometres of tourism central on the South Island, and while many are busy jumping off bridges with an elastic band tied around their ankles, the public fossicking sites around Queenstown have still been heavily used. On-line chatrooms have mentioned access up the creek is difficult, and not for kids.
