Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Brown's; Mount Hope South Mine; South Mount Hope lode
A former small underground mine with shafts and shallow pits.
Worked in the early 1900s for copper.
Robert Brown discovered the lode January 1874. The lode was a continuation of those at the Comet and Great Central mines bordering to the south. The geology is likely the same, and mining at the site was soon absorbed by the companies operating the Great Central mine. By 1882 there were six shafts to a maximum depth of 46 feet, on ore species mentioned here for the location on Mindat. The miners did not have the capital to develop it further, and Brown died December 1882. The mine reverted into the name of Brown's wife.
