Cassiterite in alluvial placer or wash being old stream channels. Geologist observations before 1963 note two branches. A southern lead 1100 metres long, and northern lead 780 metres long to its junction with the southern lead. Coarse wash overlying slate basement. The wash was at a depth of 18 metres from the surface, the leads varying from 0.15-1.5 metres wide, and 0.6 metres thick. Total reported from the entire Tallebung field 2989 tons concentrate containing 2134.18 tons of tin. A large proportion of this came from the central and southern leads. The area includes locations Plunkett's shaft, Pearce's shaft, O'Brien's Cut and Blue Shaft.
