Structure: Low Monoclinal Dip Westward Channel With Organic Material
Alteration: Oxidation Of Chalcocite To Malachite
Tectonics: Interior Basin; Deltaic Red Bed Margin
Deposit: A water well 0.5 mi to NE struck a 3-4 ft layer of copper deposits in ne-ne-sw-31. A main shaft, 65 ft deep, several trenches 100 ft e-w, and six pits can be seen within a 5-acre area, apparently all on the gravitt estate? merritt (1940, p. 10-12) and branson, burwell, and chase (1955, p. 15-17) give some details.
Development: Eight companies leased from 1947-1965; some cored. Kirk mining co., 219 clayton bldg., sapulpa (r.h. Kirk & c.o. Wright) leased gravitt and baker properties in 1947, and drilled hole on baker place near c-s line-sw-se-nw-31-12n-7e. They also leased cora aldridge place, n1/2-nw-6-11n-7e, on whose property a well was drilled in 1928, said to have a copper sho W (merritt, ham, and jeffers, 1940).
Geology: The quartzose sandstone is about 35 ft thick, lenticular, and occurs about 20 ft above the lecompton limestone. Geology by ries (1955). Fischer (1937, p. 921) commented that this deposit was probably formed from circulating ground water. A fault zone striking n20 W cuts through the shaft area. Merritt, ham, and jeffers give details.
