Deposit: Malachite in shale outcrop marcy (1854, p. 25), shumard (1854, p. 176, 177, plate 5), and shepard (1854, p. 147) located and described malachite about 115-125 ft below gypsum caprock of cedartop butte. Scott and ham (1957, p. 7, 8, 15, 54) described the geology.
Geology: Shumard (1854, plate 5) showed the malachite in blue shale about 115 ft below gypsum. Scott and ham (1957, p. 54) have a measured section at cedartop butte in ne-2-7n-21w. They have a 3-ft blue-green shale about 116 ft below the haystack gypsum. Scott and ham (1957, p. 50) have a malachite nodule bed below a 0.3 ft dol., about 111 ft belo W the haystack, or 68 ft below chaney gyp., in se-36-8n-23w, about 12 mi w.; hr.age.mv: guadalupian
