Structure: Monoclinal Low Westward Dip, About 0.5w

Tectonics: Interior Basin; Deltaic Red Bed Margin

Commodity: Marcy (1850) sent a wagon load to ft. Smith to NE W orleans to liverpool, england, for smelting, which paid for transportation [marcy, 1866, p. 122]. In 1897-1898, some ore was shipped to argentine, kansas. In aug. 1913, 29 tons of ore was shipped and 1300 oz of Ag was recovered. In 1914, c.t. Criswell of byars shipped 190 tons, with 6187 oz of ag, valued at $3,421, or 33-37 oz ag/ton of ore.

Deposit: An adit is about 20 ft or more long e- W in e. Side of ravine. It is about 10 ft wide and 5 ft high. A trench above, to e., is about 25 ft wide and 150 ft long n-s, about 100 ft e. Of adit, and about 20 ft above top of adit. More than 220 tons of ore was removed by c.t. Criswell (1913-1914), and about 7487 oz of Ag were recovered. Black beaver (1850) showed some concretions to randolph marcy while at old fort arbuckle (1 mi w. Of byars). Marcy sent several wagon loads of the ore to england for smelting and made a profit. Bob jones, a chickasaw, owned the property. Marcy (1966, p. 121-122) mentions this in his book. Mentioned by branson, burwell, and chase (1955, p. 17-18), gould and others (1908, p. 79), and stroud and others (1970, p. 37).

Development: Randolph marcy (1850), charles baird (aug. 1897-apr. 1898), and c.t. Criswell (1913-1914) worked these deposits. Marcy probably introduced the arrastra in 1850. Criswell's development is described by butler and dunlop (1916, p. 114). Baird, a banker of kansas city, mo., wrote a letter to dott, quoted in merritt and dott (1940).

Geology: The ryan sandstones erode into escarpments in badlands, and these beds probably have copper mineralization over a larger area. This is probably why there are different locations of the workings. Geology by hart (1974).
