Curlew relates to a couple of shallow shafts on Red Bluff immediately south of the Red Bluff Trignometric station. The site is 20 kilometres west north-west from Tennant Creek.
Red Bluff is the name used by modern exploration companies, for nearby gold anomalies.
No production records, or history for this minor deposit was found.
Curlew consists of a narrow outcrop of quartz hematite ironstone in the Warramunga sediment formation, on the top of the escarpment. It is hosted in east-west striking siltstone, tuffaceous siltstone, silty tuff, all dipping south, intruded by coarse grained quartz porphyry. Exploration at Curlew found high background gold values from drilling, and weakly anomalous values from rock chip sampling.
