Zeolites are found in vertical veins crossing Miocene Columbia River Basalt just south of Ritter Hot Springs along an abandoned stage coach road that led to Ritter in the 1890's. The stage coach road is still shown as the only road leading to Ritter on many road maps. The road is closed and gated. The present road to Ritter is long the Middle fork of the John Day River.
