A former U occurrence/mine located in the NE¼ sec. 17, T16N, R16W NMM. Discovered in 1959 by the Phillips Petroleum Company. Owned & operated by the United Nuclear Corporation. Operated during the period 1960 to 1981.
Mineralization is hosted in the Late Jurassic Dakota Sandstone and the Morrison formation. The ore body is tabular in form. The deposit occurs at the contact between the Cretaceous Dakota Sandstone and the Westwater Canyon and Brushy Basin members of the Morrison formation. The deposit contains fracture-controlled, redistributed ore associated with organic debris at the contact. Local rocks include the Mancos Shale, lower part.
Workings include underground openings comprised of two 862 foot shafts and modified room and pillar workings.
Production statistics: Year: 1970 (period: 1960 to 1970) (accurate): ^0.18% U308. Recovery percentage: U3O8 ore: U 0 weight percent. Production totaled 77,965 tons of ore.
