The basin of Pices Fanes Alp (Munt de Pices Fanes/Alpe di Fanes Piccola/Klein-Fanes Alm), surrounded by the summits of the Sas dla Crusc/Sasso di Santa Croce/Kreuzkofel Group (including Piz de Sant Antone/Antoniusspitze [also known as Sela de Fanes/Sella di Fanes/Fanessattelspitze], Sas dles Nü/Cima Nove/Neunerspitze, Sas dles Diesc/Cima Dieci/Zehnerspitze, Sas dla Crusc/Sasso di Santa Croce/Heligkreuzkofel, Piz di Zuber/Piz Züber, Piz de Medesc, Piz de Lavarella/Piz Lavarella/Piz Lavarela, Piz Parom, Piz Stiga, Sas dai Bec), mainly consists of dolomites of the Norian Dolomia Principale/Hauptdolomit overlain by limestones of the Rhaetian-Liassic Calcari Grigi di Fanes. Deepening of the depositional area during Liassic is indicated by the Encrinite di Fanes (Late Pliensbachian/Toarcian). Pelagic sediments of the Ammonitico Rosso Formation (Middle/Upper Jurassic) and Biancone (Tithonian/Early Cretaceous) also occur.
