A barite-lead-zinc-silver deposit. An open cut operation owned by Minworth's sub. - Strontian Minerals. It was particularly rich is fine strontianite and brewsterite.

The open-cut was filled in during the 1980s (D. McCallum, pers. com. 09/2007) despite complaints made to Scotland's conservation agency (then Scottish Natural Heritage, now NatureScot) but it was not until August 1987 that the agency finally gave the site statutory protection (confirmed in a Freedom of Information request by Dr S. Moreton). By then the opencast was completely infilled, and covered in peat slurry. The failure to protect such an historically, and mineralogically, important site is shocking and does not reflect well on Scottish Natural Heritage.

Not to be confused with the Bellsgrove Quarry (Strontian Barytes Mine; Middleshop mine).
