A former lode Au mine located near the center of sec. 17, T12N, R10E, MDM, 2.3 km (1.5 miles) ESE of greenwood, along Georgetown Creek (1 mile W of Fornis), on private land. Property comprises 19.7 acres. Operated by El Dorado Argonaut Mines, C/O J. A. Sisler. Operated in the 1880's, 1921, and 1927 to 1928. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a deposit on the Mother Lode hosted in schist. The ore body is 4.57 meters thick. Ore occurs in pockets. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings. with an overall depth of 52.12 meters and comprised of a 405 foot drift adit to a depth of 171 feet. A 10-stamp mill was installed and was later replaced by a Gibson mill.
The ore yielded up to $15 (period values) Au per ton.
