This marble quarrying basin is localised NNE from Massa city and includes the active quarries named Romana (or Rava) and Fondone (or Piastrone) [44°6'20" N, 10°11'18"E], which exploit veined varieties of marble.
At Fondone (or Piastrone) Quarry, nothwithstanding the presence of layers containing boudinated nodules of dolomite (which elsewhere often host cavities and mineralisations), no mineral findings of crystallised minerals are recorded. At Romana (or Rava) Quarry some interesting minerals inside small cavities were described by Pelloux (1929).
