The original description of the locality was given as the eastern side of Soda Spings Valley on the road to the Vulcan Copper mine. The location of the Vulcan mine is not known, but is probably in the Pilot Mountains. Locality is also given as Sodaville, Luning, or Rhodes Marsh. Mineral county was split off of Esmeralda County (sometimes given as the type locality.)
