Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

A small quarry in a granite pegmatite at the very SE tip of a rocky promontory nearly completely surrounded by swamp along the Connecticut River. It is shown by a quarry symbol in Stugard (1958) but no history or name is known. It may have been operated by the Tidewater Feldspar Company, which had a mill and quarry right on the riverbank just 1000 feet downstream. Interestingly, a pile of nearly pure (#1 grade), hand-cobbed microcline is still present at the mouth of the quarry right by the water, with larger piles of less pure/graphic granite (#2 grade) next to it. Although there is an old road leading to it around the west side of the promontory, based on the location by the water the ore may have been loaded onto boats, which would have been easy to then transport to Tidewater.
