A former vermiculite occurrence/prospect located 2.25 miles E of the Colorado River Bridge, 8 miles W of Burnet (town), on private land. Owned by S.H. Reed. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vermiculite deposit hosted in the Neoproterozoic hornblendite of the Valley Spring Gneiss and schist. The ore body is 4.57 meters thick, 22.86 meters wide and 109.36 meters long. The vermiculite is fine-grained and fragile when expanded. A water well drilled about 1 mile SE of the main zone in 1951 by S.H. Reed cut 30 to 40 feet of vermiculite weathered from biotite. Local rocks include the Valley Spring Gneiss.
Workings include surface openings comprised of a large test pit NE of the roadcut on the Reed Ranch. Additional test pits are located NE of the roadcut. Test pits S of Texas highway 29 have been reclaimed by 1958.
