Deposit: Buckley (1874, p. 42) mentioned the loose copper ores in the vicinity of california and paint creeks, on the sides and the bases of the hills. The copper could occur over a wide area. Loe W and roessler (1873, p. 460), roessler (1874; 1876a,b), buckley (1874, p. 39-40, 42). Hale (1977, p. 118-123), young (1965), hill (1887, p. 45), and geiser (1959, p. 187-188) give details about the roessler map and roessler. Cummins (1891, p. 404-405, 452, pl. 18) measured a 33-ft section at a hill on paint creek in haskell county, near the old mckinzie trail, showing 3 ft of copper clay, 18-21 ft above the base. Roessler shows the mckinzie trail crossing through site 3 from n W to se, crossing paint creek (his olney's creek) about 1.25 mi n W of site 3, and crossing california creek (roessler's paint creek) about 1.5 mi e. Of his site 3. Discovery year: 1872 or before
Geology: Geology by lloyd and thompson (1929) and hentz and brown (1987). Cummins (1891, p. 404-405, 452) and cummins (1893, p. 233) measured 33 ft of section here, describing a 3-ft copper-shale about 18 to 21 ft above the base.
