Deposit: CUMMINS (1891, PL. 18) SHOWED 3 PROSPECTS IN THIS AREA. MARCY SAW COPPER ON JULY 26, 1854, AT BASE OF TABLETOP MOUNTAIN. REFERENCES ARE MARCY (1854, P. 8; 1866, P. 188), NEIGHBOURS (1975, P. 140, 163, 304), PARKER (1856, P. 140-141), WILLIAMS AND LEE (1947, P. 117), CUMMINS (1890, P. 196; 1891, P. 451, 453, PL. 18; 1893, P. 233), AND RICHARD (1915, P. 641). PETERMANN (1859) MENTIONS THIS COPPER.
Development: Several tons of copper ore were taken out a few years before 1889, according to Cummins (1890, p. 196; 1891, p. 453, pl. 18); several deep shafts were sunk, and several thousand pounds of ore were taken out. More copper was 3 mi to NW (Cummins, 1893, p. 233). Several tons of ore were shipped to a smelter.
Geology: Geology by Garrett, Lloyd, and Laskey (1930), and Hentz and Brown (1987). Tabletop Mountain is capped by a 4-ft limestone.
