A Cu occurrence located 7.5 km (4.7 miles) SW of Olney, along highway 79. Discovered prior to 1834 by S.B. Buckley. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Exact location unknown and was stated to be in northern Young County, along the trail from Belknap to Archer County.

Go about 4.2 miles SW of the main intersection S of Olnery on Texas highway 79, to a small hill N of the road about 600 feet. Take the local road N to the hill. Possibly this was a place that Cu was found by Buckley (1861, 1874). This would be a limestone in the Sedwick Formation, or Middle Archer City Formation. Burr (1833, map) shows a Cu mine near here. Edward (1836, map) shows the same Cu mine, between the West Fork of the Trinity and the Brazos River. Accurate to 200 feet+ (?), on private land.

Buckley (1874, P. 10, 39, 42) mentions that loose masses of copper ore were washed from the red clay in northern Young County. On page 39, he mentioned that strata with fossils were associated with the Cu. This probably was the Sedwick Formation (limestones). No exact locality is given. On page 10, he mentioned that he traveled through Young County in March, 1861, from Belknap to Archer County to Clay County. Buckley (1866, pp. 24-25) made a general reference.

Mineralization is hosted in limestone of the Nocona Formation (Sedwick member). The ore body is tabular, strikes NE and dips NW30 feet per mile or less. It is an outcrop. Controls for ore emplacement included a reducing environment, stratigraphic. Associated rocks include Early to Late Permian shale of the Nocona Formation. Local rocks include rocks of the Archer City Formation.

Regional geologic structures include a gentle dip to the NW of 30 feet per mile or less, off Bend Arch.
