The Barker's Gold Mine borders to the south of the workshop etc area, with the Centenary mine 500 metres to the east. Barker's is a water filled abandoned open pit, with the tiny Barker's North open pit adjacent to the north. Barker's produced 287 Koz, and Barker's North 2 Koz.
In 1896, fifty eight prospectors petitioned the state government to establish a town nearby. Several names were suggested including Barker's Find for the original prospector who found gold in the area, although Kundana was finally settled on, being an aboriginal word.
Modern mining began in 1988. Barker's is an open pit, and underground mine, the latter starting in 1998. The decline accessed the Barker's and Strzelecki ore bodies. Mining ceased in 2004, and in its final days was the subject of a study into rock stresses.
The gold mineralisation is within a laminated quartz vein, at the sheared contact between the Footwall western facies of the gabbro intrusion, and a Hanging Wall felsic volcanic sedimentary unit. The average quartz vein dips 70 degrees with 0.2 to 0.7 metres width. Shearing extends up to 2.5 metres either side.
