The Centenary Gold Mine is a large open pit with the Barkers mine and workshops etc 500 metres to the west, Pope John mine 200 metres south, and North mine one kilometre north-west.
Modern mining at Kundana began in the late 1980's with the Kalbara Mining and Tern Minerals joint venture. Pancontinental purchased the mines in 1990, and subsequently developed the mine further.
The open pit is called South, the bottom of which is a decline to the underground ore body called Centenary. From this decline was another decline accessing the Strzelecki ore body. The Millennium deposit was discovered in 2014, and is the northern extension of the Centenary ore body.
The Centenary mine produced 309 000 ounces of gold until mining was stopped in 1999.
The Millennium deposit is only 200 metres from the surface , adjacent to the open pit, striking for 500 metres and open at depth. In 2015 the company de-watered the old mine to access the deposit for further exploration.
