Like many mines on this goldfield, Sleeping Beauty came into the world in a blaze of glory in 1896, and after about a year had closed down.
The shaft was 40 feet deep, with driving 57 feet south-west. Another shaft was 100 feet to the south-west, mainly dug for ventilation, and was connected to the main shaft by a drive. Several costeans had been dug on the lode between the two shafts.
