The Queen Margaret Gem Gold Mining Company was an Adelaide based concern which barely lasted eighteen months from late 1896 to mid 1898. James Murray was mine manager. Its lease was west of the Queen Margaret mine, on a parallel but inferior lode, much broken at the 100 foot level with patchy gold. They sank a shaft to 200 feet, and found more water than gold. In fact the sale of water to nearby mines enabled the company to continue operations as long as it did. In June 1898, little gold had been found and the company owed 65 pounds. Shareholders voted to wind up the company.
