If the map is to be believed, Crown United is now sitting under ten thousand tonnes of tailings from the Natal Gold Mine. Crown operated from 1895 and by 1900 it was largely all over.
The site was developed by the Crown United Gold Mining Company, floated for 90 000 pounds capital. 39 acres. They erected a 10 head battery to process the ore containing fine gold. The Talisman lease adjoined to the north.
A drive had been placed 2800 feet through a hill, but only to a depth of 42 feet. There was a shaft down to 70 feet, but most of the ore was coming from surface open cuts. In 1898 W.J. Clarke is mine manager.
