Homestead is the first underground mine developed by Nortons Goldfields Limited at the Mount Pleasant complex. Production started mid 2010. A twin decline accesses the deposit from the old Quarters open pit. The decline travels 1300 metres to ore under the old Homestead open pit.

The mine produced 47 000 ounces of gold in its first year. In 2011, it is noted as producing 164 000 tonnes of ore at 6.82 g/t yielding 35 961 ounces of gold. By the end of 2012 the mine had produced 309 000 ounces.

The mine continues to give with the discovery of new veins, including Phantom, VN03, Black Flag West, and extensions to the main VN01 vein. Black Flag West has an estimated resource of 19 000 tonnes of ore at 26.2 g/t yielding 16 000 ounces of gold. Remaining resources at the mine show a JORC Resource of 238 000 tonnes of ore at 18.79 g/t yielding 143 000 ounces, and Reserves of 173 000 tonnes at 8.15 g/t yielding 45 000 ounces. Grade levels are very high.

The deposit is at the contact between the Bent Tree Basalt and Victorious Basalt, in a significant deformation zone called the Homestead Shear Zone, which is a splay off the Black Flag Fault. Gold is hosted in narrow laminated quartz veins, associated with galena, sphalerite and scheelite. To the north the veins are cut by a north-east trending fault, which offsets the Homestead Shear by 40 metres west. The area north is called the VN03, while the Black Flag West and Phantom are cross cutting brittle-ductile structures.
