T.H. Love discovered the deposit in the mid 1930's and extracted 274 tonnes of ore at 38 dwt. In 1939, he let the mine on a working option to Carbine Gold Mines NL. GML 2149W. 24 acres. The company also held on option GML 2180W 24 acres adjoining to the west, and GML 2181 24 acres adjoining to the south. The price for the option of these last two leases was 2500 pounds each. For Bellevue was 10 000 pounds cash and 30 000 fully paid shares.
The lease at this stage had three shallow shafts, the main one to a depth of 80 feet. The country rock is kaolin. After much initial activity ,the company's timing was appalling, with World War Two breaking out, and mining ceased.
A. Greengrass took over the lease in 1943. Later A. Peter and F. Dawson is noted as owners, with Greengrass holding a half interest. (Nicholls is mentioned once in 1947). Immediately after the war, the syndicate produced a number of rich crushings over several years. The mine proved a bonanza, with rich specimen stone found. For example a 9 month period in 1952 alone produced 950 oz bullion worth at the time 12 000 pounds.
The mine borders the north side of the Enterprise-Mt Pleasant haulage road, about 1 kilometre north-west from the northern most pit in the Mt Pleasant complex. It is marked by a rectangular rock bund surrounding it. No open pit has been developed, and activity at the time of writing appears limited at the site.
