Alluvial gold deposits in fine sediments along the left bank of River Ticino, mainly derived from primary deposits of the Monte Rosa gold district and Malcantone.

Placers, where gold was panned since ancient times, are located in the municipal territories of Golasecca, Somma Lombardo, and Vizzola Ticino.

The average composition of gold is: 90.6 wt% Au, 7.0 wt% Ag, 2.4 wt% other metals.
