Despite what you at thinking at present, Paddy's Knob is a steep sided hill, 8 kilometres north of Ora Banda, and 1 kilometre south of the New Mexico mine turn-off listed under the Siberia Mindat sub-locality.

Several shafts and a couple of cleared areas border either side of the Davyhurst- Ora Banda Road. This was a minor alluvial area from the early years of the Ora Banda district. It was not until 1922, that a formal lease called Paddy's Knob was applied for. This was by Lewis Cossan, Alfred Barker, James Jenkins and Aida James Williams. 12 acres. GML 1908W. Jenkins and Barker at least had spent years at the location, and all the people mentioned above are noted with crushings from various spots in the area during the 1920's.

40 feet below the foot of the hill was a old costean dug years ago, 2 feet deep and 6 feet long. Jenkins and Barker deepened the costean and came upon the rich lode in 1920, containing mustard gold. The Ware brothers had previously camped 50 feet from the workings for years, but were unaware of the riches underfoot.

William Wares had passed away at the location the year before. With mining mate Alf Parker, they were working the 'Williams old show' in a 35 foot deep shaft, when Wares was killed by a fall of earth. He had emigrated to Australia from Scotland with his twin brother, who had drowned in Perth the year before.
